Summary


When filing your CT600 and Accounts online in iXBRL format, you may receive the following error. This error will occur when you are submitting to the gateway.

The request has not been accepted.

Error type: fatal
Error number: 1046
Authentication Failure. The supplied user credentials failed validation for the requested service.

Why

There are different possible causes of this error but essentially they are caused by the user credentials entered in the software not matching HMRC records.

Resolution
In order to resolve, it is suggested you check the following:

Ensure that you can access the HMRC website at http://www.gateway.gov.uk/ using the user ID and password that you have entered in the software. If you cannot log in, contact HMRC Online Services Helpdesk.

If you are able to log into your Gateway account successfully, does the client you are trying to submit a return for appear in your Corporation Tax clients list? You need to be the authorised agent for a client in order to be able to file online. If you are not, contact HMRC Online Services Helpdesk.

Check the Company Registration number on the P schedule (Information for the return). Clarify that this is consistent with HMRC records by either checking on your Gateway account or calling HMRC Online Services Helpdesk.

Check the Tax District number on the P schedule (Information for the return). Clarify that this is consistent with HMRC records by calling the Online Services Helpdesk or your local tax office.

Check the client Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) on the P schedule (Information for the return). Clarify that this is consistent with HMRC records by either checking on your Gateway account or calling HMRC Online Services Helpdesk.

You have now checked or amended all of the options related to this error code.

2. Information within the accounts does not match that on the CT600

Resolution

In order to resolve this error, it is necessary to update your software to the latest version.

4. The accounting period does not match the records currently held for the company

Summary

You may get this error if the information held by HMRC is different to what is being filed as part of the return.

Why

If the information help by HMRC is different to that in the submitted return, the gateway will return this error message. Maybe the computation was altered due to a change in the status of the company or otherwise.

Resolution

If you get this error, please contact the HMRC live services support desk to make sure that the information held by HMRC is up-to-date.

5. No original return yet recorded

Summary

You may get this error if you are attempting to file an amended return when the previous filing (new return) has actually failed.

Why

This may be caused by the software automatically setting the "amended return" flag.

Resolution

If the "amended return" flag on P schedule is set to "Yes", please change it to "No" and attempt to file the return as "new". If you have persistent issues, please contact the software support team.

6. One of the Inline XBRL documents contains malformed xml

Summary

When filing your CT600 and Accounts online in iXBRL format, you may receive the following error. This error will occur when you are submitting to the gateway.

One of the Inline XBRL documents contains malformed xml. Please check the attachment and resubmit.

The attachment with the file name Limited Company iXBRL.html is in an invalid format.

Why

As this error states ?Location: Accounts? and ?Location: iXBRL? it arises as a consequence of an error in the way the submitted HMTL accounts file has been created.

Resolution

When a HMTL file is created within any Accounts software package, ensure that you do not open the HMTL file and save it again from a web-browser as this may cause the above error. If you have done this, it is advised that you re-generate the HMTL file and try to submit online again.

If you are still experiencing problems it is advised that you contact your accounts software provider.

7. Original return already received for this period

Summary

When filing a CT600 online in iXBRL format, you may receive the following error within the software. This error will occur when you are submitting to the gateway:

Why

An original return has already been submitted and received by HMRC for this period. You cannot send a second return for same the period, unless you are submitting an amendment. if you are trying to send an amendment, it must be flagged as one.

Note: This can also occur if a submission is in progress, and you click Submit again. A response will only be returned for the latest submission.

Resolution

In order to resolve this error, locate the selector on P schedule, which represents Amended e-filing. There is a drop-down menu in column B. Change the drop-down to Yes to flag this submission as an amendment.

As this error states ?Location: Accounts? it arises as a consequence of a data entry error in the submitted HMTL accounts file.

Resolution

It is advised that you apply the XBRL tag mentioned in the error message to the relevant item within your accounts, and re-generate your HTML file, before attempting to file online again.

If you still experience the same error, please call the software support team for further investigation.

9. Inconsistent duplicate fact values

Summary

When filing your CT600 and Accounts online in iXBRL format, you may receive the following error within the software. This error will occur when you are submitting to the gateway.

Inconsistent duplicate fact values (XBRL Tag)

Why

This submission error occurs when there are duplicate XBRL tags within the computation, which conflicts with HMRC requirements and therefore the submission is not accepted.

Please pay particular attention to the Location of where the error occurs (Computation or Accounts) because this specifies which HTML files contains the duplicate tags.

Resolution

There are different solutions depending on which XBRL tag is duplicated, and where this appears within a particular submission, therefore if you are experiencing an error with Location: Computations it is recommended that you call the software support team in order to resolve.

If the error is Location: Accounts, please contact your Accounts software provider.

10. Generic dimension member (uk-bus:Director1) has no associated name or description item

Summary

When filing your CT600 and Accounts online in iXBRL format, you may receive the following error within the software . This error will occur when you are submitting to the gateway.

Why

As this error states ?Location: Accounts? it arises as a consequence of a data entry error in the submitted HMTL accounts file.

Resolution

Please make sure that the dimensional information (specifically name and description) are tagged correctly in the accounts iXBRL file. If you are in doubt, please contact your accounts software provider.

11. The "Rate of Tax" must equal an applicable tax rate

Summary


When filing your CT600 and Accounts online using ONESOURCE Corporation Tax, you may receive the following error. This error will occur either when you validate for online filing or when you are submitting to the gateway.

Validation errors:

HMRC business logic validation errors:

Error: 9209
The ?Rate of tax? must equal an applicable tax rate from one of [FULL RATE OF CT], [SMALL CO RATE OF CT], [STARTING RATE OF CT], [FULL RF RATE OF CT] or [RF SMALL CO RATE OF CT] if the type of company is not completed. If [SMALL CO RATE OF CT] or [RF SMALL CO RATE OF CT] is used then Box 42 must be completed.

Why

This error occurs when you are trying to submit a post-31 March CT600 returns which show profits chargeable to corporation tax, where the tax logic has not yet been released by HMRC.

Resolution

In order to resolve it is necessary to upgrade to the most recent version of the software, as the tax logic has been updated in the software and the validation file for the updated HMRC server is also included. It is also possible that HMRC are yet to release the new tax rate rules to their gateway. In this scenario, you will be provided with a software update as soon as the new rules are made available by HMRC.

If you have have already got the update and still receive the validation error:

Is it likely that the file was created as an Early Build computation and has subsequently been finalised without amending the tax logic on the O schedule.

12. Online Filing Schema Validation Error: AccountNumber

Summary

When filing a CT600 online in iXBRL format, you may receive the following error within the software. This error will occur either when you run the Validation Tool or when you are submitting to the gateway:

Schema Validation Error:  
minLength constraint failed.
The element: '{http://www.govtalk.gov.uk/taxation/CT/3}AccountNumber' has an invalid value according to its data type.

Why

Validation errors occur as a result of information being entered in an unexpected format to what the HMRC are expecting. Information may be absent or invalid in particular cells on the computation or return.

In order to determine which cells are causing the validation error, it is crucial to look at the key word which appears after the government website address {http://www.govtalk.gov.uk/taxation/CT/3}.

Resolution

On the P schedule (Information for the return), check the Account Number under the Bank details for repayment section. There should be 8 digits in the cell, with no spaces before, after or between the digits, and no extra characters.

13. XBRL submission error - cvc complex type.2.4.a:invalid content was found starting with element ('CT-case1:TradingProfitsTndividualTrade)

Summary

This submission error is generated if the file attached to the submission is not actually a set of XBRL company accounts or computation. The submission will need to be performed again taking care to attach the correct accounts or computation iXBRL file. 

Resolution

This XBRL submission error is caused when a html file is attached to the submission in a malformed iXBRL accounts or computation. The file will attach without any problem but because it is malformed, the above error messages will be generated.

The submission needs to be performed again, being careful to attach the correct accounts html file. If it is the computation, then please contact the software support team to discuss the issue with them.

14. The 'decimals' attribute is invalid - The value '' is invalid according to its datatype 'http://www.xbrl.org/2003/instance:decimalsType' - The value '' is not valid according to any of the memberTypes of the union.

This error will appear in the software when you attempt to validate the accounts html file for online filing.

Validation of tag uk-gaap:OperatingProfitLoss with value " " failed.
Expecting value with comma as separators and dot as decimal point (e.g. 1,000,000.12)

Resolution

The error is generated because one of the tags which is expected to be a number has been populated with text. The tag which is causing the error is mentioned in the validation error. In this case the tag with the issue is uk-gaap:OperatingProfitLoss. To resolve this, please make sure that the accounts or computation iXBRL has been tagged correctly.

Resolution

When launching the software E-Filing wizard, after  ?Browse for file? option  is selected to attached the iXBRL accounts  on the prompt ? Would you like to add all other HTML files in this directory?  Click No. This is usually the cause for the error. Try to resubmit the return with the accounts.  

16. Online Filing Schema Validation Error

17. Filing Online Error - Subscript out of range

Summary

When filing online, after you have attached your PDF files and entered your HMRC user credentials and tried to submit online, you may receive the following error:

Resolution

The above error indicates that one or more of the PDF files that you have tried to submit online are 0kb in size. In order to resolve this:

Note    : Make sure you check the size of the PDF file before trying to submit online again.

18. XBRL Tagging Wizard Error: Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application

Summary

When using the Filing Online Wizard, the following error may occur when you run the XBRL Tagging Wizard.

The following error may occur during the Tagging Preferences window when Next is selected:

Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.

Index was outside the bounds of the array.

When Continue is selected and Next pressed again, the same error occurs.

Resolution

The error is occurring because of the focus of the computation in the background being on the A schedule (in a Basic/Lite computation) or D schedule (in a Standard computation), that is a parent, i.e. has an analysis schedule developed from it. There is no data loss due to this issue, and it can be resolved by using the following workaround:
